Ever since I was a little kid I've wanted to be on the go... My grandmother gave me the vision and sometimes provided the means... My parents encouraged me to get out and discover for myself what the world had to offer... And I've been forever grateful...

Up until recently I've had to travel on the cheap... In my teens, I hitched rides and if I hadn't been able to, I would not have had those exciting and valuable experiences... Of course, in the 1930's it was relatively safe to hitch hike, and I took advantage of this freebie method of getting from place to place... A most memorable (and lengthy) journey was a trip from New York to California and back -- and I was only sixteen!

My Navy career gave me the opportunity to see a lot of the world, but I wasn't able to fully appreciate the places I visited because of my job... Too much work to do, and not enough time (or money) to play tourist...

But after I retired from the Navy, I made up for lost time -- and then some... I still didn't have much money, but I utilized inexpensive and sometimes free transportation to get to many, many countries world-wide...

For the past dozen years or so, my wife and I have given cruise lines a few bucks and we have enjoyed it immensely... And we hope to continue this kind of travel as long as we are able...

I have visited 157 countries and island groups to date - click on the Countries Visited link at the top of the page for a list... I've kept logs and have taken pictures...  I doubt if these records of my travels will be of much interest to anyone when I am gone, but they exist in case someone cares to look...

For me, travel is exciting... I love to see new things, meet new people... And most importantly, it's been a lot of fun
